Pellet stoves are very environmentally friendly and don't pollute much at all as they produce virtually no smoke, and even less odor. Pellet stove inserts actually increase the efficiency of an already reliable unit. The other nice thing about pellet stoves is that they don't get hot on the outside which reduces thee chances of accidental burns.

You most definitely will save money using a quality insert but it won't happen right away. The savings are long term, so it really comes down to this. Can you afford some up front cost to save money in the long term. If the answer is yes, then it's a no brainer.

Keep in mind that you can get some pretty substantial tax credits with inserts so you also need to factor that in when coming up with a bottom line price

Wow, I've heard that insert were the way to go but they are really expensive. Can somsone tel me how much they actually save per year by using them? thanks in advance.

The inserts work very well at increasing the efficiency of your fireplace but they are not cheap. The savings can add up but make certain you do the math first. Also shop around as the pricing on the inserets can vary greatly.

One of the things I like best about pellet stoves is that they are made from wood products that would normally be considered "waste" so you will be helping our worldwide struggling environment -- and my husband and I have also found pellets to be very economical to buy (compared to "regular" wood) as well
